First of all, thanks for the help! and as luck would have it, I have the old tray-loading imac with no firewire. I am new to macs and really want to try OS X. I have upgraded the memory and plan a hard drive upgrade. Hoping to remove the old drive and keep it as a fall-back. Is it possable to boot from a network drive? (ie pc dvd) As I said, this is my first Mac, but I have been building Linux and Winblows machines for about 20 years, so I am comfortable rummageing around inside the box. Is the cdrom in the G3 iMac an Ide? If so as you indicated maybe I could cable-up on the outside temp. for install.... Any more advice would be greatly appreciated! anil8tor
