number 2 is good news. people should be able to upgrade hardware on their own without voiding the warranty. I plan to buy a mini soon and I am going to upgrade its internal hd to a 7200rpm with 8mb buffer and upgrade the ram to 1GB. I plan on turning the original drive into an external since 2.5" fw/usb2 cases are so cheap now. not sure yet if i'm getting the 1.25 or the 1.42 model.
